%X The mesoregion region of the northern Minas Gerais is considered the area whose land is cheaper compared to other parts of the state, and is also well to Vale do Jequitinhonha. Furthermore, a policy to encourage capital investment in precision forestry on these lands has attracted several interested in undertaking projects, especially the cultivation of eucalyptus. In this context, the aim of this paper is to analyze the spatial and temporal distribution of eucalyptus plantations in the districts of the northern region of the state of Minas Gerais, in the years 1986, 1996 and 2010, based on data derived from remote sensing. For this, we used medium resolution orbital products in order to extract the areas allocated to eucalyptus, by municipality. This procedure allowed us to identify the cities with largest area of planted forest, as well as rates of forestry practiced in those lands.
